Hebrews 12:1-2

Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Endurance. To persevere, to push through, to keep going. As if to give us the key to this challenge, we’re told to look to Jesus as our example. Jesus endured the most brutal and terrifying fate anyone has or will ever face. In our place he bore the wrath of God that we were owed. How terrible a fate! How in the world did he endure such a thing? “For the joy set before him.” He looked ahead and saw joy. The joy at the finish line. The joy of eternal fellowship with our Lord Jesus, unhindered by our broken and sinful bodies. Today look to the joy that is to come and endure.
